© From Wednesday August the 3rd, the 58th annual Locarno Film Festival opened in Switzerland. The festival will presume until August the 13th and Niki Karimi the Iranian actress and director is a member of the jury for the International Competition Section. The Iranian film; “We are All Good” by Bijan Mirbagheri is also competing in this section. Abbas Kiarostami, Vim Vanders (the German director), and Terry Gilliam (the American director) are scheduled to be presented with the Honorary Golden Leopard this year. Kiarostami won the Leopard in 1989 for his movie: “Where is the Friend’s House?” The movie: “Mirror” (Ja’far Panahi-1997) which won the Golden Leopard, and the movie, “Dance of Earth” (Abolfadhl Jalili-1998) which won the Silver Leopard are also amongst the accomplishments of Iranian Cinema in this festival. The American Actors John Malcovic and Susan Sarandon are also scheduled to be honored in this festival. The Locarno Film Festival is considered to be Europe’s 4th most significant and creditable film festival after the Cannes, Venice, and Berlin Film Festivals. Compared to the other three festivals Locarno focuses more on less known works by younger artists.
